Our homelands are sacred, not just property. At the COUP Council, we believe a stable home is the foundation for healing families and honoring ancestral bloodlines. For years, we have listened to the tenants and unhoused relatives of Rapid City, centering our mission on housing justice.
Since purchasing our first residential property in 2022, we have provided sanctuary for 30 individuals who were otherwise shut out of the housing market. But we aren’t just providing shelter; we are building a tenant cooperative. We invite you to stand with us as we reclaim, build, and develop housing for the Indigenous people of these lands—lands unjustly taken and never ceded by the Great Sioux Nation. We are still here.
