Community, Culture & Teachings
Youth Circles
Youth circles are a space for young people to listen and engage with each other. Indigenous youth talking circles increase cultural knowledge, emotional well-being, peer relationships, confidence, and leadership ability for young people. Youth activities have included supporting LGBTQ+ youth in creating a mural in Art Alley, working alongside elders to prepare for ceremonies while learning their history and traditions, and attending events like tribal council meetings to help them understand the current needs of their people.
Women’s Circles
Our cultural offerings are focused on learning traditional skills such as beading, making moccasins, and sewing ribbon skirts. We are expanded to include cooking, foraging, planting and hunting. We also directly impart our Lakota culture and spirituality in all settings, from our office to the mountains and our house to the prairie. We plan to offer another Fall cultural series focused on these and other artistic and economic aspects of our Lakota culture.
